Day 23: Eyes on Fire - Blue Foundation

Song: Eyes on Fire
Artist: Blue Foundation
Jan 23

Between spending over four hours trying to get my laptop to simply boot up and the constant gnaw of adulthood, my frustration has reached new levels. What had started out as relatively a stress-free day has now wound my shoulders so tight that you'd think they were an old pair of jeans your big toe wouldn't even be able to slip into.

Blue Foundation is a Danish indie band who apparently goes through members like water.

A tremolo of strings with a staccato guitar eerily leads the song. Our vocalist sounds snakelike, a temptress hissing her Cs and Ss with a hypnotic lilt to her voice. Dark in its tone there isn't a lot of building tension. This lack of tension adds to the feeling that this song acts as either a precursor or an ending. I prefer to think of it as the latter. I would like to give a brief shout out to our poor strings section who tremolo for almost the entire duration of this song, my arm hurts for you. As the song nears its climax the drums erupt with a frenzy. It's as if the cold and calculating sound we had early on has executed its plan. Whatever that nefarious plan may have been.

As expected the lyrics are dark and have a sinister edge. I can't help but also feel there is something sexual in the undertones of these lyrics.
"I'm taking it slow
Feeding my flame
Shuffling the cards of your game
And just in time
In the right place
Suddenly I will play my ace"

I really enjoy how many ways you can really interpret these lyrics. You can take it in the literal sense of revenge, a play on seduction, or even just figuring out your next move when faced with a dilemma.

Lyric that attacked me:
"I won't soothe your pain
I won't ease your strain
You'll be waiting in vain
I got nothing for you to gain"

Song Color: Deep Burgundy

Mood: Annoyed
