This week appears to have completely depleted me of all of my energy as I spent the vast majority of my Saturday heavy with sleep. I feel as if I woke this morning in the midst of sleep paralysis and I have been unable to shake the feeling for the entirety of the day. This tends to happen when I have had too much of a social output thus rendering me entirely useless until I recharge. The problems of being an ambivert.
The Neighbourhood is a California based indie hiphop/rock band. Known for their trademark Black & White aesthetic, The Neighbourhood has a style all their own and honestly I am still surprised they are not more mainstream.
A mellow, melancholic melody opens as a sleepy beat joins with Jesse's vocal. There is a heaviness in the tone of "The Beach" as if they are trying to carry on while made of lead. Lethargic, "The Beach" doesn't build dynamically or come crashing in around you it's calm like the sea on a breeze-less day. A desperate pull emotes from Jesse during the choruses providing the most stimulating contrast in the track. I feel a lot of quiet introspection while my mind wanders, over thinking the mysteries of the universe.
Incredibly poetic and filled with interpretation, "The Beach" forces us to dive below the surface.

"I'm sick and I'm tired too
I can admit, I am not fireproof
I feel it burning me
I feel it burning you
I hope I don't murder me
I hope I don't burden you
If I do, I do"
I can admit, I am not fireproof
I feel it burning me
I feel it burning you
I hope I don't murder me
I hope I don't burden you
If I do, I do"
Honestly, this chorus changes its meaning every time I hear it. Today, for whatever reason, I get a sense of possessive jealousy. Unhealthy, burning from the inside which can cause the other person involve to burn with anger. The last three lines always speak from a childish almost threatening matter to test the feelings of the other person involved in this relationship. None of it sounds healthy. I'd like to take this moment to clarify that the lyrics are not what fit my mood today, it is solely the mellow tone.
Lyric that attacked me:
"Swim with me
I think I could see the beach
Just don't look underneath us
I need you here with me but we're out in the open"
"Swim with me
I think I could see the beach
Just don't look underneath us
I need you here with me but we're out in the open"
Song Color: Grey scale
Mood: Exhausted
